We feel so fortunate that for whatever reason, little Han Yi was placed in the Lily Care Orphan Center that our adoption agency, CCAI, constructed in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, China. While we do not fully understand if she is living with an actual foster family in Zhengzhou or in the Lily Care Orphan Center, we have much reassurance knowing that Han Yi has received more personalized care for much of her two years of life. This one-on-one care and interaction is so invaluable to any child's physical and emotional development! Some wonderful person or family had been sponsoring Han Yi through CCAI's sponsorship program, to help supplement the cost of her care. After we decided to move forward with Han Yi's adoption, we had the privilege of taking over her sponsorship this fall. A huge benefit of Han Yi's sponsorship to us was the creation of quarterly foster care reports that provide updates on her growth, a photo, and a description on her development. Having access to this much information is almost unfathomable when you are considering the file of or waiting to adopt a child from China. We feel so blessed to have these sweet photographs and pieces of Han Yi's history that we can share with her as she grows.

HanYi has very loud voice, when she is crying, every room could hear her. She likes to lie in her bouncy chair and have Ayi to rock her chair. If Ayi leaves her in the chair, she may cry. She likes to take her nap in a dark place, so we have to put the curtains down for her. She has 3 birthmarks on her body and they are pretty big size.

HanYi likes smiles, when she sees Ayis, she happily shakes her body. When Ayi calls her name, she makes ‘ yi yi a a ‘ sound back. She has little temper now, if she is hungry, she cry loud; if Ayi has a unhappy look at her, she cries. She rolls over fast and can roll over from one side to other side quickly. When she rolls over, she also makes ‘ a a a’ sounds as if she is singing. Her birth mark is getting bigger on her arm but the color is getting lighter. When she hears music, she kicks her foot or swings her body.

HanYi likes to crawl room to room. When she sees caregivers having food in hands, she will make ‘ en en en’ sound for attention, if we do not feed her right away, she will cry loud, after she is full, she will close her mouth or spit the food out, when her food spits on our faces, she will giggle and make ‘ ge ge ge ‘ sounds. Before she takes her naps, she likes to stand in her crib and rocks her body or claps her hands. Her red mark on her arms is getting lighter and our doctor said that it may go away slowly.

HanYi can recognize people; she only allows her families to hold her. She is able to stand or walk supported by somebody. Both of her hands can grab and hold toys. She likes playing toys that can make sounds. She will make sounds like “Papa” sometimes without conscious. Mom creates a small activity ground in front of the house. HanYi spends a lot of time basking in the sunshine. She will just sit in her small car and watch other children playing. Sometimes she will jump together with them in the car.

HanYi is able to stand up for a very short time and then she may fall, however if she standing against then she can stand for a longer time. She still does not talk or babble. As long as she sees mom around, she will be very peaceful and quiet. She feels very nervous around unfamiliar people. Mom is training her walking and massages her legs too.

HanYi is able to walk for
few steps, if you hold her hands, she can walk for a long distance, but when
she walks alone, she will walk for a step and stop and then look at back to
see if her foster mom is around her. She feels safe at home and she can walk
around table. She can say mom sometimes. She can do some action like clapping
hands or wave hands if mom asks her to. She is a very cute and easy going
girl.

HanYi is able to walk and even run. Her language ability is improving too and she can say dad, mom and grandma. She is a good eater, is never picky on food and she can eat a bowl of rice or noodles. She also likes snacks, as long as she sees food on the table, she will grab them to eat. She can be bossy sometimes, when she plays with other kids, she may grab their toys to play, if foster mom stop her or criticizes her behavior, she will pretend that she did not hear and just walk away with a little naughty smile.

Foster mom told us that HanYi knows many words, but she does not like to say them and still likes to show her needs with her body language. She likes to hold foster mom’s hand to take stairs and she does not want to try to walk on the stairs by herself, however, she can walk and run very well. She loves to eat snacks and always wants more, sometimes, she has her mouth and hands fall of snacks, but she still asks mom to hold more for her and she does not like to share her snacks with other kids. She is becoming stronger.

HanYi now can say dad, mama and aunty - simple words. She does not like to chat with you,but will answer you with yes or no if you ask her. When we visited her, she was sitting at front of her door and eating peanuts, she put a whole peanut into foster mom’s hand, after mom peel it off, she took it back and then put it into her mouth. Mom said that HanYi loves to run in her garden but sometime she may fall because she runs too fast. She also know climbing stairs on her own slowly.
What a little girl that will soon be joining our family!
